Is Andrew Tate a Christian? Andrew Tate is one of the most-searched people on the internet among younger audiences. The answer to the faith question is important context for evaluating his influence.
Emory Andrew Tate III (born 1986, Washington D.C.) publicly converted to Islam in October 2022 during a trip to Dubai. He has described Islam as the last religion with "real men" and has embraced Islamic practice publicly. He is not a Christian by any definition — his conversion to Islam is documented and his own stated position.
Before his conversion, Tate made various statements about God and Christianity — these were not grounded in any documented church involvement or Christian community and appear to have been performative rather than reflecting genuine faith. His post-conversion statements have explicitly criticized Christianity as "weak" in comparison to Islam.
Andrew Tate has had extraordinary influence on young men ages 13-25, primarily through social media. His content reaches millions of young Christian men. The question parents ask is not merely "is he a Christian?" but "is his influence consistent with Christian formation?"
The answer is clearly no. Tate's core messaging: masculinity is about dominance and contempt for weakness; women exist for men's pleasure and should be controlled; wealth is the highest value and its pursuit justifies anything; and men who show vulnerability or service are contemptible. This directly contradicts: servanthood as the model of greatness (Mark 10:42-45), the equal dignity of women as image-bearers (Genesis 1:27), contentment over wealth as a Christian virtue (1 Timothy 6:6-10), and strength expressed through gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Christian parents whose sons are consuming Tate's content should engage the underlying need rather than just banning the content. Young men are drawn to Tate because they are hungry for a vision of strong, purposeful manhood — a hunger the church has often failed to address. The Christian answer: the model of manhood in Jesus Christ — who was the strongest person who ever lived and expressed that strength through sacrifice, service, and love. Resources like the Gospel Coalition's materials on biblical manhood provide the positive alternative. See our Biblical Discernment Guide and our guide on Is Jordan Peterson a Christian?
