Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood (PBS Kids) is the animated preschool series based on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. One of the most educationally rigorous and emotionally intelligent preschool shows ever made.
Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood (PBS Kids, 2012-present) is the animated successor to the beloved Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Created in partnership with the Fred Rogers Company, it follows Daniel Tiger and his friends in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, using Fred Rogers' educational philosophy to help young children manage emotions, navigate social situations, and develop character.
Fred Rogers himself was an ordained Presbyterian minister whose theology of childhood — every child is special and beloved, every emotion is acceptable and manageable, kindness and patience are learnable — was explicitly Christian in its foundations. Daniel Tiger maintains this spirit without explicit religious content. The result is children's programming that is genuinely formative in the best sense: it teaches emotional vocabulary, empathy, conflict resolution, and the value of friendship in ways that align with Christian character formation.
Daniel Tiger uses "strategy songs" — simple musical phrases that give children tools for difficult moments ("When you feel so mad that you want to roar, take a deep breath and count to four") — that have been documented to genuinely help children regulate emotions. Research from the PBS Parents research summary documents positive effects on emotional regulation in young children. Available on PBS Kids. See our Christian Kids Shows hub.
