Should Christians watch Daredevil: Born Again? The long-awaited return of the Marvel street-level vigilante on Disney+ brings back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock — a Catholic lawyer who is also a masked vigilante. The show's explicit engagement with Catholic faith makes it unusually interesting for Christian viewers.
Daredevil has always been Marvel's most explicitly Catholic hero — a man whose guilt, confession, and struggle to reconcile his violent vigilantism with his faith is the engine of the character. Born Again continues this. Matt Murdock goes to confession. He wrestles with whether his actions are justified. The show takes his Catholicism as a real moral framework rather than decorative background, which is genuinely unusual in superhero media.
The Catholic theology engaged is not always precise from an evangelical perspective — Catholic confession and the role of the priest are presented faithfully to Catholic practice — but the underlying framework (sin is real, guilt is appropriate, forgiveness requires action, violence has a moral cost) resonates with Christian values broadly. The show treats faith as something that complicates and enriches rather than something to be overcome.
Graphic violence. Born Again pushes Disney+'s content envelope. The fight sequences are visceral and realistic — broken bones, sustained beatings, blood. This is TV-MA content on Disney+, which is unusual. Parents who allow children to watch Marvel content assuming Disney+ means family-appropriate should be aware this is a very different content tier.
Moral complexity of vigilantism. The show genuinely wrestles with whether Daredevil's vigilantism is morally justified — a question it does not easily resolve. This is more interesting than most superhero media but requires a viewer who can engage moral complexity without simple resolution.
Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin returns as a villain-turned-politician, and Born Again explores the question of whether a genuinely evil man can reform — and what that reformation would look like if it did not include genuine repentance. This is one of the most interesting moral questions in contemporary TV, and Born Again handles it more seriously than most. Available on Disney+.
