Seventh-day Adventism affirms core Christian doctrine in significant ways. SDAs affirm the Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one God. They affirm the full deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, his atoning death, and bodily resurrection. They affirm salvation by grace through faith, not works. They affirm Scripture's authority and the physical second coming of Christ. On the essential gospel question, mainstream SDA theology is orthodox.
Ellen G. White as prophetic authority. SDAs treat Ellen White's writings as a "continuing and authoritative source of truth" that should guide the church. While Scripture is formally placed above White, her writings function as an additional interpretive authority that has shaped SDA doctrine in ways not found in the Bible. This raises the question of Scripture's sufficiency (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Revelation 22:18-19).
