Yes — Jesus is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity, fully divine and fully human. The biblical evidence: explicit statements (John 1:1, 20:28, Hebrews 1:8), his own 'I AM' claims (identifying himself with the divine name of Exodus 3:14), the worship he accepted, and the divine attributes he demonstrated. C.S. Lewis's trilemma: Lord, liar, or lunatic — and the evidence rules out liar and lunatic. 98/100 Christ-Centered.

What the New Testament Says Explicitly

John 1:1-3 — "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Through him all things were made." John 1:14 — "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." Jesus is the Word made flesh — God incarnate. John 20:28 — Thomas sees the risen Jesus and declares "My Lord and my God!" Jesus does not correct him. The most explicit affirmation of Jesus's deity in the Gospels, made in his presence with his approval. Hebrews 1:8 — The Father addresses the Son: "Your throne, O God, will last forever." Colossians 2:9 — "In Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form."

Jesus's Own Claims

The "I AM" statements in John deliberately echo the divine name revealed to Moses in Exodus 3:14 ("I AM WHO I AM"). John 8:58 — "Before Abraham was born, I AM!" — the Jews picked up stones to stone him for blasphemy (v.59). John 10:30 — "I and the Father are one." — again attempted stoning (v.31-33). Jesus accepted worship (Matthew 28:9, John 20:28), forgave sins on his own authority (Mark 2:5-7 — the scribes correctly identified this as something only God can do), and claimed authority to judge all humanity.

C.S. Lewis's Trilemma

A man who claimed to be God, to forgive sins, and to judge all humanity at the end of time was either: telling the truth (Lord), a deluded megalomaniac (lunatic), or a deliberate deceiver (liar). The quality of his life and teaching rules out lunatic and liar for any fair-minded observer. Lord is the only remaining option — which is why his contemporaries either worshipped him or executed him, but no one called him merely a good teacher. Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jesus God?
Yes — the biblical evidence is extensive and explicit. John 1:1: 'The Word was God.' John 20:28: Thomas calls him 'My Lord and my God' with Jesus's approval. Hebrews 1:8: the Father addresses the Son as 'O God.' Colossians 2:9: 'all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.' Jesus accepted worship, forgave sins on his own authority, and made I AM claims (John 8:58) that prompted stoning for blasphemy. C.S. Lewis: Lord, liar, or lunatic — evidence rules out the latter two. 98/100 Christ-Centered.
Did Jesus claim to be God?
Yes — repeatedly. The 'I AM' statements echo the divine name of Exodus 3:14: 'Before Abraham was born, I AM!' (John 8:58) prompted stoning. 'I and the Father are one' (John 10:30) prompted another stoning attempt. He accepted worship, forgave sins on his own authority (Mark 2:5-7), and claimed to judge all humanity. His contemporaries understood these as divine claims — which is why they crucified him for blasphemy.
What do Jehovah's Witnesses say about Jesus?
Jehovah's Witnesses teach Jesus is the archangel Michael — a created being, not God. Their New World Translation renders John 1:1 'the Word was a god' — adding 'a' not in the Greek to make Jesus a lesser deity. This is ancient Arianism, condemned at the Council of Nicaea (325 AD). The Greek of John 1:1 has no indefinite article; the NWT translation is rejected by Greek scholarship. Colossians 2:9 says 'all the fullness of the Deity' lives in Christ — not partial deity.
